Thanks to all of you who stayed behind and handed out cards and greeted people. We had a great time . Lots of quiet achievers and people whose greatest asset was their attitude . Now that is something to celebrate!
ITS Not how big or famous you are - its your attitude to tough times that matters.

The Bigger Picture

One reason I am standing is to help keep the balance in the Senate

While the major parties are spending big bucks trying to get the leadership badge, Mr Bob Brown could be expected to be the biggest winner of power in this Saturdays election--- IF it wasn’t for the Family First Party . If our families behaved like some of the major party players , the children would be in charge and the unnecessary bills would drive us to divorce. Whose talking about that ! Vote minor party first and help keep the balance in the Senate, in particular .

Why vote minor party first ?

High quality outcomes for Corangamite will not be achieved by allowing your federal representative to be complacent about the real needs of Corangamite.

By voting for Family First, you will ensure a local and much more independent and effective voice on our region’s matters. By keeping this electorate marginal, Corangamite will not become a clone of the big city to be run by remote-control by big business and minority groups.

Canberra needs every free regional voice possible to keep a balanced view on the proper procedure for sound development of the Australian environment, without cowtowing to quick fix, noisy voices and wasting taxation dollars. And, together, we can be part of that. Our phones will work, and our roads and services will be planned with the local environment and users in mind.

By Voting 1 Family First and then your major party of choice, you can make a real difference. No resolution of this increasing distance of Canberra from real world issues will continue if you vote first for the major parties.

We are a rich country, but we can do much better for our children and the future of the Otways and the Great Ocean Road. I know and care about the critical balance of issues of the increasing city-country divide and will provide a reasonable balance to ensure the best of both worldviews is catered for.

What do I hope to achieve?

To be elected to the House of Reps would be in the realm of "miracle". Our son asked me, if I get elected, would we buy him a PlayStation 2 or an XBox. Without hesitation, I said: "Yes!"

Even so - in the event of a miracle, we are quite prepared to turn our household upside down so I can be the best local candidate possible.

I am standing because, to our family, it's important to take the opportunities when they arise - to speak up when you have the chance.

And we really want to give YOU the opportunity to vote for this minor party first to reduce the level of complacency of the major parties towards families and to make our democracy function better - especially here in Corangamite.

Let's make a statement to the major parties that the middle ground for families is being neglected by the major parties.

What's this all felt like?

When I decided to stand for election, the words people used were BRAVE and COURAGEOUS. What I have felt is amazing ENCOURAGEMENT and SUPPORT.

It's been a huge job. Without John's constant terrier-like action, I would have been floundering.

To see our democratic system in action from the other side has been an amazing privilege. To be part of the forums run by the Australian Christian Lobby and the Victorian Farmers Federation has been eye-opening. I hope I never turn into a "politician". I think a fresh approach to our parliamentary process is what we need.

I have been so fortunate for the way people have come on board who have been so willing to make endless phonecalls, offer to take on jobs, make uplifting comments, and even cook meals so I am free to concentrate on the last minute details.

Thanks for your interest and support.

What about single people?

How can singles and single parents can identify with such a party?

The easiest way we know to see the bigger picture here is to think of families as households - the greek word for household is " eco".
FF is about supporting households. The word household has the same meaning as the prefix " eco" FF are "eco" oriented . Sound long term economics and ecology have their roots in the concept of household . FF supports the rights of all household leaders to be just that - leaders ; They set the rules and influence the training of all who come into their household .We think that's a good thing and a way in which all households ought to be the same. Unity of function but diversity of character?

Going to great lengths

We've got it wrapped up

Some people go to great lengths to get their message out. Our stunt was to wrap up a shed in seechange territory . And with something free like hessian- always appeals to us cost conscious country folks. Perfect to illustrate John and Ben's long term commitment to not exploiting rural people and their unique contribution to both biodiversity , sustainability and precautionary principle economics .

Labor at least one week behind

It was our idea - On 19th September we launched see-change at Barwon Heads bridge ; no publicity with the big papers. This photo features in others . Guess what;;
Labor launches its campaign there on the 26th and gets the bridge photo - one week later. They are spending a bit more on Corangamite - we get a free freeway and the eastern suburbs of melbourne miss out - i wonder what the stakes are?
